What each facility publishes

Insurance and payment, as published: 13 facilities.

Each line is what the hospital or clinic says on its own website, with the link and the date we read it. If a facility is not listed, it published nothing about insurance that we could find: ask it directly.

01 / Direct billing

Direct billing depends on your insurer, not only on the hospital.

Direct (cashless) billing means the hospital sends the bill to your insurer. It works only when the hospital has an agreement with that insurer and your policy covers the treatment. Otherwise you pay first and claim the money back.

02 / Deposits

Expect to be asked for a deposit or a guarantee.

Before an admission or a larger procedure, a private hospital may ask for a deposit or for a guarantee of payment from your insurer. Ask the hospital's international or insurance desk how much and how long the guarantee takes.

03 / Claim documents

Collect these before you leave.

  • Itemised receipt
  • Medical report or certificate with the diagnosis
  • Copies of test results
  • Your passport details as the hospital recorded them
  • The insurance claim form, filled in by the doctor if your insurer needs it

04 / Road accidents

Road accidents: compulsory motor insurance.

Thailand's compulsory motor insurance (CMI, often called Por Ror Bor) can pay for initial treatment after a road accident. At least one hospital in this guide states it accepts CMI at its emergency department without advance payment; ask the hospital you go to.
